The Supreme Court decided that an unlawful killing conclusion in inquests should be at the civil and not the criminal standard.

The Chief Coroner intervened in the appeal.  The Supreme Court majority was 3:2.  The High Court and Court of Appeal previously considered that a conclusion of suicide should be at the civil standard, which was upheld by the Supreme Court.  Dr Anton van Dellen sits as an Assistant Coroner in West London.
