Dr Anton van Dellen presented a webinar on private prosecutions, hosted by Simon Berney-Edwards, the Chief Executive of the Expert Witness Institute (EWI).
Anton covered the differences and similarities between state prosecutions and private prosecutions, as well as relevant considerations for expert witnesses. The webinar included a recent Court of Appeal case, which has relevance for experts appearing in criminal courts, in which a claim for negligence against solicitors was dismissed on the basis that it was a collateral attack on the conviction. Anton gave evidence to the House of Commons Justice Committee which reviewed private prosecutions.
